Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley to join the BA picket line

Direct News Source

26-May-2010 With the strike by British Airways cabin crew now in its tenth day, Unite joint general secretaries Tony Woodley and Derek Simpson will visit the picket lines today (Wednesday) to show their support to the strikers.

They are expected to arrive at Bedfont FC, where the striking crew gather to go on picket duty around Heathrow airport, at 13.00. The joint general secretaries will meet crew members and brief the media on the union's attempts to restart talks with the airline.

Unite says the strike is holding strong with crew determined to end the intimidation by the company as they fight to save their jobs. The strike alone has cost BA an estimated £70 million so far and could cost as much as £152 million, but with the lost revenue which will come as passengers switch to other airlines during the peak summer season yet to be costed.
