Aer Lingus to become anchor tenant at Dublin Airport's Terminal 2
25-Jun-2010 Aer Lingus has confirmed the transfer of its Dublin Airport operation to Terminal Two from this November to coincide with the opening of the new facility, the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) announced today.
Aer Lingus will become the anchor tenant at T2 and will operate its full long-haul and short-haul service from the new terminal. Aer Lingus will also use the new United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility, which is an integral element of T2. By availing of CBP, all customs and immigration checks for the United States are completed in Dublin and passengers will be classed as domestic upon arrival into the US.
"We are delighted that Aer Lingus has agreed to move its Dublin operations into Terminal Two," said DAA Chief Executive Declan Collier. "We look forward to working closely with Aer Lingus over the coming months to ensure a smooth and efficient transition to the new terminal."
Aer Lingus Chief Executive Christoph Mueller said: "Aer Lingus' move to Terminal 2 is a significant moment in the history of Irish aviation. It will represent a major improvement in the overall airport experience for our customers and our staff. We also believe that the opening of full CBP facilities will provide significant opportunities for future development."
Aer Lingus and the DAA have also agreed to work together to improve the travel experience for passengers transferring through Dublin Airport.
Terminal Two, which has been designed to handle up to 15 million passengers per year, will open this November. Construction of the new terminal and its linked boarding gate pier is effectively complete and testing and trialling of the new facility commenced last month.
Terminal Two will also handle Etihad Airways' services from Dublin and transatlantic flights operated by US carriers.
