ALPA commends Administration’s intent to nominate Woerth as Ambassador to ICAO

"The Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l, applauds the Administration's intent to nominate Capt. Duane E. Woerth as the U.S. Ambassador to the International Civil Aviation Organization.

"Capt. Woerth brings to this important post a deep understanding of the global airline industry, garnered through his experience as an airline pilot, international union president, expert representative on government and industry advisory committees, and member of airline boards of directors.

"The airlines in the United States and Canada operate in a global air transportation system. While North America has maintained an extremely high standard of aviation safety and security, the airline passengers, crews, and cargo on this continent are engaged more than ever with air transportation operations around the globe. As a result, the efforts of ICAO to enhance aviation safety and security the world over and to address issues such as environmental protection through the international community could not be more vital.

"The pilots of ALPA stand ready to continue to contribute to ICAO's indispensible work. We hold complete confidence that Capt. Woerth will provide the outstanding leadership necessary to promote the very highest standards in air transportation here in the United States and around the globe.
