AA Chairman welcomes new flight arrangement between HKIA and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport
16-Jul-2010 The Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), Dr Marvin Cheung Kin-tung, today welcomed the announcement by the HKSAR Government that flights between Hong Kong and Shanghai will be able to land at Hongqiao International Airport, which is located in downtown Puxi.
The new arrangement allows the operation of 28 regular weekly round-trip flights between Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Hongqiao Airport, which are expected to begin this October or earlier.
Dr Cheung said, "The new flights will reinforce HKIA's status as an international and regional aviation centre as well as the preferred gateway to the Mainland, providing added convenience for business and leisure travellers going to Puxi in Shanghai. The arrangement also comes shortly after the setup of the joint venture Shanghai Hong Kong Airport Management Co., Ltd between AA and Shanghai Airport (Group) Co., Ltd to manage the two passenger terminals, retail business in the terminals and east transportation centre of Hongqiao Airport's integrated transport centre."
Dr Cheung added that the new services, which complement HKIA's existing extensive flights to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, will also help strengthen the increasingly closer economic ties between Hong Kong and Shanghai. Currently, there are 28 daily round-trip flights between HKIA and Pudong Airport.
