Direct News Source

27-Sep-2010 The Spanish unions have confirmed that a general strike affecting transport workers will take place in Spain between 00.00 (Spanish local time) and 23.59 (Spanish local time) on Wednesday 29 September 2010.

This strike will potentially affect the movement of all flights to and from Spain and the Spanish Islands.

Monarch continues to work closely with the Spanish Government to understand the restrictions being imposed on airlines and will endeavour to minimise the impact of the strike action on its customers.

All flights operating to and from Spain and the Spanish Islands are likely to incur delays on 29 September and it may be necessary to cancel some flights at short notice. Customers that have booked directly with Monarch to travel on a Monarch scheduled flight (ZB flight number) to/from Spain on Wednesday may opt to change their flight booking to an alternative date within five days. Flight changes can be made free of charge by calling the Monarch Customer Contact Centre on one of the following numbers. Customers that have booked via a tour operator are advised to contact their tour operator directly.

08719 40 50 40 if calling from the UK

+44 8719 40 50 40 if overseas and calling from a UK mobile

800 099 260 if calling from Spain or the Canary Islands

Contact Centre opening hours have been extended and will now operate between 08.00 and 22.00 (UK local time) on Tuesday 28 September and between 07.00 and 22.00 (UK local time) on Wednesday 29 September. Customers are advised that high call volumes into Monarch's Customer Contact Centre may result in long call waiting times and are asked to be patient whilst their call is answered.

Customers booked and wishing to travel to/from Spain on 29 September are advised to check the website for the latest flight information prior to departing for the airport. If travelling from Spain, please note that strike action will affect all public transport, so please allow additional time getting to the airport. Customers are also advised to check-in online and where possible, to travel with hand baggage only.

Whilst the strike action is outside of Monarch's control, we apologise in advance for any disruption caused to your travel arrangements and assure you we are doing everything possible to reduce its impact on our flights.
