31-Oct-2010 Preliminary results: Air Berlin realises total revenue of EUR 1.241 billion - the operational result reaches EUR 171.7 million

Due to the increasingly positive development of demand in the third quarter of 2010, Air Berlin PLC´s total revenue increased as compared to the third quarter of 2009 by 27.4 per cent from EUR 974.0 million to EUR 1.241 billion (Q3 2009 pro forma*: EUR 1.182 billion). The revenue result also includes the TUIfly City Carrier business as well as the first-time consolidation of the NIKI acquisition.

The favourable development in the quarter under review is also reflected in the EBITDAR which increased from EUR 228.7 million in the third quarter of 2009 to EUR 336.4 million (Q3 2009 pro forma*: EUR 294.6 million)

The result from operating activities (EBIT) improved from EUR 118.0 million to EUR 171.7 million in the third quarter (Q3 2009 pro forma*: EUR 151.1 million). The pre-tax earnings have increased from EUR 121.1 million to EUR 165.0 million (Q3 2009 pro forma*: EUR 152.4).

The net result in the third quarter 2010 amounts to EUR 135.9 million after EUR 95.2 million in the previous year´s third quarter (Q3 2009 pro forma*: EUR 126.4).

Air Berlin PLC´s total revenue during the first nine months of 2010 increased by 13.7 per cent from EUR 2.470 billion to EUR 2.809 billion as compared to the previous year (9M pro forma*: EUR 2.834 billion). From January to September 2010, EBITDAR improved from EUR 390.7 million in the previous year to EUR 504.7 million (9M pro forma*: EUR 486.8 million). EBIT decreased from EUR 48.3 million to EUR 44.8 million (9M pro forma*: EUR 58.8 million). The net result after the first nine months of 2010 amounts to EUR -14.6 million as compared to EUR 13.8 million in the previous year (9M pro forma*: EUR 22.1 million).

The equity ratio increased from 20 per cent in the previous quarter to 22 per cent in the third quarter of 2010; net debt further decreased from EUR 493 million to EUR 438 million (including net debt of NIKI´s balance sheet).
