Cathay Pacific updates London flight details

Direct News Source

21-Dec-2010 Cathay Pacific operations to and from London/Heathrow are still severely disrupted by the winter weather. At this stage Heathrow Airport is still only allowing 30 per cent of the normal number of flights to operate in and out of the airport.

Because of these restrictions and the continuing severe weather, decisions to allow flights to operate to/from London are being made on an hour by hour basis by authorities. This is compounded by the fact that with a flight time of over 13 hours from Cathay Pacific's hub, Hong Kong to London, even a decision to allow a flight to depart for London can be problematic.

Cathay Pacific is trying to operate as many flights as possible to London, Heathrow and over the past two days, the airline has managed to operate two of the normal four flights a day from Hong Kong to London. However, because of the continuing uncertainty of the Heathrow airport situation, Cathay Pacific wishes to advise that passengers who are due to depart today from Auckland on CX108 for London/Heathrow will not be accepted for boarding as there is no guarantee that they will be able to travel on their connecting flight to London. The hotel situation in Hong Kong is already critical and there is a large backlog of passengers waiting in Hong Kong trying to get to London.

Cathay Pacific is making every attempt to ensure passengers reach their final destination with the least amount of inconvenience, but the airline asks for passengers' patience and understanding as the current circumstances are outside Cathay Pacific's control.

Passengers are advised to input their contact details in the 'Manage My Booking' function at the Cathay Pacific website, www.cathaypacific.co.nz to ensure they receive the latest flight information via SMS or email. Or alternatively call Cathay Pacific on 379 0861, if in Auckland, or from outside Auckland on 0800 800 454 for further information and rebooking proceedings.

Cathay Pacific will assist affected passengers with alternative arrangements. Passengers who do not have confirmed bookings are strongly advised NOT to go to the airport.

Cathay Pacific does operate daily services to other European ports including Paris, Amsterdam or Frankfurt and will re-issue passengers' tickets to an alternative airport at the passenger's request. However it should be noted that Cathay Pacific will take no responsibility for any further carriage from that airport to London.

To assist those who decide to cancel or postpone their trip, the airline will refund the ticket or waive all rebooking charges and re-issuance fees for Cathay Pacific tickets that were issued worldwide on or before 18 December 2010 for travel involving London between 18 and 24 December 2010.
