Flight operations normal at Vnukovo International

Direct News Source

28-Dec-2010 Vnukovo International continues to operate normally and in conformity with its daily flight schedule.

Any statements to the contrary, as well as those regarding an alleged operational collapse at the Airport, that have been circulated by a number of mass media outlets today, are therefore not based in fact and untrue.

The few occasional flight delays that have indeed occurred, had to do with extreme weather conditions at destination airports or late arrivals of aircraft from the airports of origin. Current weather conditions at Vnukovo Intl. have not affected the Airport's normal operations, nor has it ever experienced any power outages over these last few days.

So far today, Vnukovo Intl. has handled 142 departures and 113 arrivals, with 9 and 7 of the above respectively, being flights diverted from other airports. A kind request to all our air travelers, for the latest flight updates to please call the Airport's Inquiries & Referrals Desk at: +7 (495) 937 5555 or to contact the airlines operating your flights.

Current visibility at Vnukovo Intl. is 3800 meters. The Airport has been implementing all the standard operating procedures to assure total flight ops. safety. All the Airport's airfield maintenance and other key services and divisions have been either fully engaged or standing by as appropriate. A total of 47 snow-removal crews manning 55 units of snow fighting equipment, are constantly engaged out on the airfield. The Airport's runways are being cleared of any surplus snow and icing by conga lines of 5 to 7 snowblasters and other types of snow-removal trucks, followed by de/anti-icing agent spreaders. Special de-icing trucks are treating all departing aircraft with de/anti-icing fluid, of which the Airport maintains sufficient reserves, despite its currently increased expenditure rate due to severe weather conditions.
