11-Jan-2011 In 2010, a total of 33,593,010 passengers traveled on airberlin's flight route network (including the acquired NIKI routes), i.e. an increase of 3.8 percent over the previous year (2009: 32,375,531 passengers, including those traveling on the acquired NIKI routes).

airberlin was thus able to increase the number of passengers, as the company had forecast in the spring, despite the unexpected external influences that marked 2010. For instance, in December 2010 alone, approximately 800 flights were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Fleet capacity utilization for 2010 decreased from 77.5 to 76.8 percent, i.e. by 0.7 percentage points, whereas accumulated capacity increased by 4.7 percent.

In December 2010, airberlin welcomed 2,285,974 passengers on board, i.e. an increase of 3.3 percent (December 2009: 2,212,118 passengers, including those traveling on the acquired NIKI routes). At 76.0 percent, fleet capacity utilization surpassed the level of the corresponding month of the previous year by 2.9 percentage points.
