Union warns Qantas pilots might strike

Direct News Source

09-Feb-2011 A union official says Qantas pilots might strike over a dispute about job security.

Australian and International Pilots Association president Barry Jackson says a meeting with Qantas management Wednesday failed to resolve key issues, including pilot concerns over their jobs moving offshore.

He says meetings of pilots scheduled for Friday and Monday will gauge support for strike action at some future date.

Qantas said in a statement Thursday that the union's claim that job security is under threat is "unfounded." The airline also said it has not laid off any pilots in almost 40 years.

The union represents more than 2,500 Qantas pilots.
