Grimsvötn Volcanic ash cloud disruptions - Air Malta flights operating normally

Direct News Source

25-May-2011 The volcanic ash cloud from the Grimsvötn volcano is currently extending from Iceland to northern parts of Europe. As a result, Air Malta would like to inform its passengers that it may be forced to re-route or cancel some of its flights.

Air Malta is not expecting major disruptions for today, Wednesday, 25th May, however the Hamburg flight KM368/9 this morning had to be cancelled due to the closure of the airport. Passengers that were due to travel on KM368 to Hamburg today have been re-routed on other Air Malta flights.

The rest of Air Malta's flight schedule for today is currently unaffected.

Air Malta is continuously monitoring the situation and is in touch with Aviation Authorities whilst monitoring data supplied by the UK MET Office and bulletins issued by the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency).

Air Malta will never compromise the safety and well-being of its passengers, crew and aircraft and will not operate flights unless it is satisfied that its safety standards are being met.

Air Malta passengers affected by any cancelled flights may choose the following alternatives:

  • Free change of reservation to a later Air Malta flight and / or date (same destination). No penalty applies. Rebooking is allowed on Air Malta operated flights only and subject to availability.
  • Cancellation of booking and claim of refund of ticket. Any refunds should be requested from the sales channel where purchase was made.

For any re-booking or re-routing enquiries clients can contact Air Malta's International Call Centre on +356 22999777.

The airline will continue to advise its passengers of any changes in its flight schedule and will issue media statements whilst also updating its portal www.airmalta.com and Facebook page with the latest updates.
