Trafi: Foreign air carriers shall follow the instructions of their state of registration

The Finnish Transport Safety Authority's decision about flights in areas affected by volcanic ash only applies to Finnish air carriers and turbine-engine aircraft registered in Finland.

Foreign operators may fly within the flight information region of Finland in accordance with instructions given by their own state of registration.

No advance permission or approval is required of foreign air carriers for entry into Finnish airspace when affected by volcanic ash.

However, Finavia will not issue air traffic control clearances into areas of high volcanic ash contamination even to foreign turbine-engine aircraft.
