Solomon Islands condemns suspension of Solomon Airlines, notes action 'irresponsible'

Solomon Island's Ministry of Finance condemned (07-Jun-2016) the actions of Solomon Airlines CEO Ron Sumsum for suspending the airline's operations on 07-Jun-2016. The Ministry said it considers the action "irresponsible," noting: "The government has met all of its financial commitments to the airline, including full payments for fares and provision of Community Service Obligations payments... The perilous financial situation of the airline falls squarely at the feet of Captain Sumsum." The Ministry of Finance said the carrier would resume operations "within the next 24 hours." As previously reported by CAPA, Solomon Airlines announced a temporary suspension of operations on 07-Jun-2016 citing safety concerns over aircraft utilisation and pilot duty hours, as well as delayed payments from the government.
