Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport pax up 5% to 3.4m in Sep-2016

Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport passenger numbers up 5% - traffic highlights for Aug-2016:

  • Passenger numbers: 3.5 million, +5.5% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 2.3 million, +3.9%;
    • International: 1.2 million, +8.6%;
  • Top 10 nationalities travelling through Sydney Airport:

Sydney Airport MD and CEO Kerrie Mather said: "We were delighted by Qantas' announcement that it will commence a new Beijing-Sydney service in time for Lunar New Year. The new daily service will be operated on an A330-200 from 25 January 2017. Pleasingly, China Eastern Airlines has also announced another new regional Chinese destination. The Kunming-Sydney route will launch in November 2016. This three-weekly service will operate on a 234 seat A330-200 aircraft. Kunming is the fifth new Chinese city for Sydney Airport in 2016. These new services are expected to further boost tourism demand to Sydney, delivering an additional 171,000 and 73,000 seats per year respectively. In addition, Singapore Airlines announced the launch of its new Jakarta-Sydney route. The service will operate three times weekly on a Boeing 777-200ER with 271 seats, from 23 November. The Indonesian market is one of Sydney's largest growth markets, serving over 620,000 passengers over the last 12 months, growth of 13% on the previous year." [more - original PR]
