About

Air Costa Rica, re-branded from Tica Air International in Jun-2014, was a San Jose-based charter carrier. It had previously intended to commence operations by the end of 2015, with services to Miami and Managua. The airline planned to capitalise on regional routes not served by Avianca or Copa Airlines, with an "intermediate cost model" as opposed to a LCC model. The carrier acquired two 130-seat Boeing 737 and two 100-seat Fokker 100s, and planned to deploy the aircraft on services to Punta Cana, Roatan Island, San Andres and Cartagena. In Sep-2015, Air Costa Rica received an Air Operating Permit from the country's Civil Aviation Authority, allowing the start-up to launch commercial air services. The carrier launched charter services in Oct-2016. Air Costa Rica was backed by investors connected with Air Panama. The airline ceased operations in 2018.
