Atlasjet order for CSeries continues Bombardier's push into new growth markets
Altasjet has become Bombardier’s 10th CSeries customer, announcing a Letter of Intent (LoI) for 10 of the larger CS300 variant at this week’s Dubai Airshow. The announcement is another fillip for Bombardier’s CSeries sales campaign and a strong order from the relatively small Turkish regional carrier. The LoI also includes options for five more CSeries aircraft. The LoI is expected to be firmed up within the next two months.
The LoI is Bombardier’s first sales success for the CSeries in Eastern Europe. Bombardier has been pursuing sales among European regional carriers, but the economic climate in Europe has not been conducive to aircraft orders. Slowness in the US economy has also had an affect on regional jet ordering. As a result, more than 50% of CSeries orders have been placed by airlines outside of North America and Western Europe.
Second tier LCCs playing major role in reshaping European aviation (Part 1)
European LCCs, led by Ryanair, easyJet and Air Berlin, commanded 32% of intra-Europe capacity (seats) in 2009, representing spectacular growth from just 4.6% less than 10 years ago in 2001 and a 20.2% share in 2005. But the 'big three' are just part of the story. This special two-part CAPA report looks beyond the headline-grabbing 'big three' European LCCs to provide updates on more than 20 of Europe’s secondary LCCs. Part I reviews Air Southwest, Anadolujet, Atlasjet Airlines, Belle Air, Blue Express, Blue Air, bmibaby, CLICK4SKY, Flybe, Germanwings, Iceland Express and Jet2.com, while Part II (coming soon) will review the progress at Monarch, NIKI, Pegasus Airlines, SkyExpress, Smart Wings, Sun Express, Sverigeflyg, Thomson Airways, Transavia.com, TUIFly, Wind Jet and Wizz Air.
Turkish Airlines SWOT Analysis: Can the dream continue?
Turkish Airlines is a rising force in the European and Middle East aviation industry, capturing the interest of investors, alliance partners and rivals. The fast-growing carrier is not only increasing its size at a time when the majority of its European counterparts are shrinking, but is profitable whilst doing so. After reporting the third largest net profit and seventh largest operating profits in the aviation industry in 2008, the airline's revenues and profits are expected to increase from these bases in 2009. Investors are clearly delighted with the airline’s growth trajectory, with Turkish Airlines’ stock surging 425% in 2009 – the biggest gain by far among carriers tracked by The Centre globally last year. But can the dream run continue?
Turkey’s air travel demand continues to grow, albeit at a slower rate
With a population of over 76 million, a dynamic economy, a relatively large geographical area (779,450 sq km) and increasing disposable income among its population, Turkey’s air travel demand continues to grow, at a time when the majority of Europe is experiencing sharp reductions.
