Mesa emerges from bankruptcy

26-Jan-11 2:45 PM

With its reorgansation plan approved by the US Bankruptcy Court, Mesa Air Group is planning to emerge from its year-long bankruptcy in February much leaner flying only 76 70 to 86-seat aircraft. It also emerges with only two clients – US Airways and United – after Mesa’s Freedom Airlines and Delta came to terms a little more than two weeks ago.

Chinese airline consolidation: Second tier airlines in the sights of the 'Big Four'

29-Oct-10 4:57 PM

China’s fragmented airline industry is undergoing a shakeup. Merger and acquisition activity is intense – probably more so than any other aviation market in the world. In the space of a few short years, the majority of China’s second tier airlines have, at least partially, become owned or controlled by one of the "Big Three" carriers and/or HNA Group, as consolidation accelerates in China. 23-Sep-10 5:35 PM

The US airline industry is well into recovery, with Department of Transportation statistics revealing network airlines’ profit margin in the second quarter of 2010 was the largest since the second quarter of 2007. To further the point, the combined profit margin for the network, low-cost and regional carrier groups was the highest since the Department’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) began issuing quarterly airline financial numbers in 2002.

Hawaiian Airlines navigates slowly into international markets

21-Jun-10 3:45 PM

Hawaiian Airlines’ Executive Vice President, CFO and Treasurer, Peter Ingram, was not shy about advising analysts to resist the temptation to fit the carrier into the standard airline categories of legacy versus low-cost carrier. Indeed, he was the first speaker at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Global Transportation Conference to say there is a kind of hybrid category – one with a legacy history, but transformed into a kind of niche carrier, much like Alaska Air.

Mesa receives another blow with court ruling in favour of Delta

19-May-10 4:31 PM

As it struggles through bankruptcy, Mesa received another blow when the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia ruled against it in its dispute with Delta Air Lines. The ruling paves the way for the elimination of Freedom Airlines as a Delta Connection, effectively grounding 22 regional jets. Mesa was also ordered to pay Delta USD3 million for overbilling the major carrier.
