Wataniya Airways was a Kuwaiti airline owned by Kuwait National Airways. It was based in Kuwait City and was listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange. Wataniya operated a network of regional services within the Middle East from its base at the exclusive Sheikh Saad Terminal at Kuwait Airport.
On 16-Mar-2011, the airline announced it has ceased operations due to the airline's "financial situation and regional unrest."

Middle East lessor ALAFCO forecasts record full-year profit
Kuwait’s Aviation Lease and Finance Company (ALAFCO) has announced that it expects record profits for FY2010/11, as it has settled a deal that will allow other parties to pick up some of its aircraft orders with Airbus and Being, netting it one-off gains of USD139 million.
ALAFCO orders 36 Airbus aircraft at Paris Air Show
Kuwait’s Aviation Lease and Finance Company (ALAFCO) signed USD4.3 billion in deals with Airbus at this month’s Paris Air Show. The carrier ordered more A350 XWBs and, in a surprise move, signed an MoU for 30 of the A320neo, which has now become the fastest-selling aircraft in aviation history, with more than 1000 orders and commitments since Dec-2010.
And then there were two: Wataniya Airways suspends operations
Kuwait’s premium focused Wataniya Airways suspended all operations on 16-Mar-2011 and there are few indications the carrier will return. The airline announced its board will now enter a process to determine the future of the company and has requested a halt to its share trading. The carrier cited its financial position, as well as the political and security situation in the Middle East region, as reasons for the decision.
So you think you know your airline market capitalisation: Part 3
The first part of this three-part report on airline market capitalisations described how Air China is valued more on the stock exchange than US carriers United-Continental, JetBlue, Hawaiian Air, AirTran, US Airways, American Airlines, Republic Airways and Skywest combined. In this final section, CAPA reviews some further interesting facts from the equity investment world.
Jazeera Airways' turn-around plan produces results
Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways has declared its second consecutive quarter of profitability and its best second half results since 2008. Even so, the turn around has not been enough to offset losses sustained earlier in the year, although the carrier is determined to continue its positive momentum and remain profitable in every quarter in 2011, despite the challenges facing the Kuwait market and broader region.
Growth at Kuwait Airport reflects local economy
Kuwait's economic growth of just 2% and the continuing lacklustre performance of Kuwait Airways has dampened growth at Kuwait International Airport in 2010. The airport reports passenger traffic grew just 2.6% to 8,333,000 passengers over the year, while flights by commercial carriers were up 1% to 78,596.
