InselAir CEO, Albert Kluyver Curacao’s InselAir pursues pan-Caribbean strategy, starting with Aruba

30-Nov-11 5:13 PM

Curacao-based InselAir is planning to launch a sister carrier in Aruba in 1Q2012, the first step towards potentially establishing a pan-Caribbean airline group. InselAir is also planning to add two MD83s in 1Q2012, including an aircraft modified to operate flights of up to six hours, which will be used to launch service to Sao Paulo.

InselAir CEO Albert Kluyver says InselAir Aruba will launch services in Jan-2012 with an initial fleet of one MD83 and two Fokker 50 turboprops. The group has identified 10 routes for the new carrier but Mr Kluyver says InselAir Aruba will initially serve only four destinations: Curacao, the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Venezuela. He says six routes are expected to be operated within the first year, including Brazil and Ecuador.

Future planned destinations for InselAir Aruba include Colombia, Costa Rica and Puerto Rico. “We will focus our growth in Aruba,” Mr Kluyver says.

Australian airport pricing. Productivity Commission review to be brought forward

16-Dec-10 7:29 PM

The Australian government has announced a Productivity Commission (PC) review of airport pricing, investment and services as part of a public inquiry into the economic regulation of major Australian airports that was announced earlier in the year. This brings it forward by more than a year. The announcement comes as it is alleged that Cairns Airport in Queensland will have the most expensive landing fees for a major Australian international airport by 2014, under the proposed new pricing structure for the industry.

Gol-TAM: Two Strategies gain overwhelming success

24-Aug-10 7:28 PM

A discussion about Brazilian – or even South American aviation – is incomplete without Gol, with its low-fare strategy, and TAM, with a legacy strategy complete with regional airline feeder in Pantanal and membership in Star Alliance. TAM’s measured and targeted growth contrasts, however, with Gol’s dramatic rise. Ironically, Gol was built on the remains of Varig, whose demise paved the way for the successful entrance of TAM.

‘State capitalism’ evident in the airport sector?

23-Aug-10 2:47 PM

The Economist magazine has recently presented evidence in several articles that suggests the propensity for industrial and commercial intervention by the state in rich countries is increasing. It pointed to the Japanese Government’s desire to create a "Japan Inc", deepening the links between business and government, and the lavishing of money by the state on banks and carmakers in the US and Europe.

Brazil's airlines Part 2: the modern, post-Varig era

4-Jun-10 4:00 PM

Since the demise of Varig, the once-famous airline always closely associated with the magic of Brazil, the country's airline industry has thrived, as economic growth and stable government created favourable conditions. The second of a three part CAPA report on the country's airlines.
