Bournemouth Airport is a regional airport serving the city of Bournemouth and the surrounding Dorset region in southern England. Bournemouth sees the vast majority of its traffic in the summer months, when many charter airlines serve the airport, operating to holiday destinations across the Mediterranean, Europe and the Caribbean. Ryanair, Flybe and Thomson Airways are important year-round operators at Bournemouth. The airport is owned and operated by Manchester Airports Group, which has outlined plans to expand Bournemouth to accommodate around three million passengers p/a by 2015.

Who wants to unite with Manchester?
Abandoning the habits of a lifetime, Manchester Airports Group (MAG), under the command of relatively new and aviation outsider CEO Charles Cornish, has announced it is seeking equity investment to equip it to bid for one or more airports; the two going hand-in-hand. Momentarily it is not clear exactly what MAG has in mind and neither it nor the municipal owners are being forthcoming either. MAG is Britain’s second largest airport operator after the depleted BAA and is almost unique in that it remains in public ownership. Who are the potential investors and just what would they be buying into?
UK’s largest British-owned airport operator in fight back after four depressing years
Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has released its annual financial report for year ended 31-Mar-2011. They reveal static income levels but strict cost cutting. The maximisation of non-aero revenues have helped MAG increase net profit by almost 130%.
Australian airport pricing. Productivity Commission review to be brought forward
The Australian government has announced a Productivity Commission (PC) review of airport pricing, investment and services as part of a public inquiry into the economic regulation of major Australian airports that was announced earlier in the year. This brings it forward by more than a year. The announcement comes as it is alleged that Cairns Airport in Queensland will have the most expensive landing fees for a major Australian international airport by 2014, under the proposed new pricing structure for the industry.
UK’s Birmingham Airport in the sights of Middle East investors
Towards the end of Sep-2010 reports emerged from the English Midlands that Birmingham Airport, partly owned by two pension funds, could be sold to Middle East investors as part of a package of assets to fund other projects.
Palmair, one time world best airline, and the oldest tour operator in Britain, turns 50
Bournemouth (UK) based Palmair announced that it intends to suspend all services at Bournemouth Airport for the months of Nov-2010, Dec-2010 and Jan-2011, citing poor advance bookings for winter, but hopes to produce a reduced winter timetable from Feb-2011 onwards. Despite this temporary setback Palmair, which claims to be Britain’s oldest tour operator, is one of the industry’s survivors, having been in business as the ‘in-house’ airline of a travel agent and tour operator, Bath Travel, since 1958 – 52 years.
Ryanair in talks to purchase up to 400 aircraft to secure mid-term growth – “no loyalty to Boeing”
Aircraft prices are under pressure as both Airbus and Boeing reported “negative orders” in Jan-09, as airlines cancelled more orders than they placed. This could create the conditions for another massive counter-cyclical order by Ryanair.
