Charleston International Airport serves the city of Charleston, South Carolina. The airport ranks among the busiest in South Carolina, handling more than 1 million passengers p/a. The airport is served mostly by the regional subsidiaries of the US majors, which operate regular services to cities in the eastern US. The airport is also an important general aviation, air taxi and military facility in the region. Charleston International Airport is also a base for Boeing, where the US aircraft manufacturer has invested USD750 million to build a 4000-worker assembly plant for its new 787 Dreamliner. The first B787 to roll off the South Carolina line is expected in 2012.
