Humberside Airport is a regional airport serving the Humberside region in North Lincolnshire, England. Humberside is an important regional aviation facility in the country's north-west, averaging more than 500,000 passengers p/a. General aviation is a large revenue source at Humberside, with several flying clubs and training organisations based at the airport. The majority of commercial passenger traffic is in the summer months, when charter airlines from across Europe operate to holiday destinations. Humberside is the UK’s second-largest heliport, serving the offshore oil and gas industry in the North Sea.

Birmingham Airport repositioning as a national UK gateway point
In the 1980s and 1990s there was one regional airport in Europe that was notably and successfully aggressive in its attempts to convince government of the value of this genus – Manchester. Since then, Munich has taken the baton, with even better results. Now attention swings back to the UK and to Birmingham Airport, which is going a step further, by attempting to persuade government that it should be the extra capacity provider for the southern part of Britain, rather than one or more of the London airports, which have been told that they cannot have any more runway space. CAPA visited Birmingham Airport to discover what it takes for a mid-ranking (8.6 million passengers in 2011) European airport to assume such a position of responsibility within a national air transport framework that hosts over 220 million passengers per annum through its 40 largest airports.
UK’s largest British-owned airport operator in fight back after four depressing years
Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has released its annual financial report for year ended 31-Mar-2011. They reveal static income levels but strict cost cutting. The maximisation of non-aero revenues have helped MAG increase net profit by almost 130%.
EBITDA margin reveals best performed airports
As a tough year for the aviation industry comes to a close, a review of EBITDA margins achieved by a variety of airport operators globally reveals some surprising results.
Australian airport pricing. Productivity Commission review to be brought forward
The Australian government has announced a Productivity Commission (PC) review of airport pricing, investment and services as part of a public inquiry into the economic regulation of major Australian airports that was announced earlier in the year. This brings it forward by more than a year. The announcement comes as it is alleged that Cairns Airport in Queensland will have the most expensive landing fees for a major Australian international airport by 2014, under the proposed new pricing structure for the industry.
Airports struggle with life after Ryanair
Ryanair has been cancelling or suspending services at a wide range of airports across Europe, including in countries where it is growing. Is there any discernible strategy here or is it no more than coincidence, as a result of too many disagreements with airports? What future prospects are there for smaller airports when Ryanair decides to quit?
UK’s Birmingham Airport in the sights of Middle East investors
Towards the end of Sep-2010 reports emerged from the English Midlands that Birmingham Airport, partly owned by two pension funds, could be sold to Middle East investors as part of a package of assets to fund other projects.
