Taipei Songshan Airport (also known as Taipei International Airport) serves the city of Taipei, Taiwan. The airport is the smaller of two airports serving Taipei, with the majority of services being intra-Taiwan or short-haul services to mainland China and Asia. The airport is located near to downtown Taipei, much closer than the larger Taoyuan Airport. As a result, the airport is favoured among business travellers, and much of the destinations served from Songshan are major business centres such as Tokyo Haneda and Shanghai. Taiwanese carriers Uni Air, TransAsia Airways and Mandarin Airlines are the largest operators at Taipei Songshan.

Despite European economic woes, Portugal and Germany focus on LCC airports

6-Apr-12 1:00 PM

With much of the world – and especially Europe – still embroiled in recession or economic slowdown and with a lengthy and growing list of failing new airports in Spain (Ciudad Real, Castellon, Lleida, Huesca, Badajoz etc) and failing existing ones in the UK (Plymouth, Coventry, Durham), this would hardly appear to be the time to open or commence construction on a new one, outside of the major metropolitan areas.

But that is exactly what has happened at Beja in Portugal, which has been designated a ‘LCC base’ - and what will happen at Kassel in Germany by 2013.

China Airlines, Taiwan’s largest carrier, joins SkyTeam. Big impact in crucial North Asian markets

28-Sep-11 4:50 PM

The SkyTeam alliance has taken another step forward in cementing its place in the fast-growing North Asian aviation market by adding China Airlines, Taiwan’s largest carrier and the world's seventh largest cargo carrier (by international scheduled FTKs - or eighth largest by total system FTKs), to the fold on 28-Sep-2011. China Airlines' entry comes just three months after China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines joined the grouping in Jun-2011. China Airlines will be the first Taiwanese carrier to join a global alliance, with rival EVA Air remaining unaligned.

China Airlines will become the 15th member of the SkyTeam airline alliance (see Appendix for full list of alliance groupings). By joining SkyTeam, the Taiwanese carrier will expand its international coverage nine-fold via codesharing to 926 destinations in 173 countries across 14,000 services from the current 1010 destinations in 29 countries.

GMR Infra looks international for airport business growth. 1Q losses on Delhi and Istanbul

9-Sep-11 10:35 AM

As part of efforts to become a global player in the airport sector, India’s GMR Infrastructure is seeking to expand its international footprint beyond its Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen and Male presence. GMR, which also operates Delhi and Hyderabad airports, two of India's largest airports, is looking at projects in countries ranging from Spain and Croatia in Europe to Puerto Rico and North America in the Americas, in addition to airports in Southeast Asia and Africa. The company’s airport segment, meanwhile, reported a loss in the three months to Jun-2011, although its Male and Hyderabad airports were profitable. All GMR’s airports were profitable at the EBITDA level in the quarter, with robust traffic growth across the board.

Pakistan International Airlines in precarious situation as losses continue

6-Jul-11 12:14 PM

Pakistan’s aviation industry has struggled in recent years due in large part to the poor performance of national carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which continues to be supported by majority owner, the Pakistan Government, as the carrier’s losses continue to flow.

Colombia sits atop airport investment prospects in CIVETS countries

6-May-11 3:10 PM

The latest trendy acronym after BRIC and N11 is CIVETS; a gaggle of widely dispersed countries (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa) that are all dynamic and diverse emerging economies with inflation under control and sophisticated financial systems with an absence of "sovereign debt bombs".
