European airlines ramp-up capacity to China
Asia Pacific, particularly China, is one of the current destination hotspots for European carriers, with connections between Europe and China improving in recent months and over the past couple of years. The initial focus was obviously on providing connectivity between key European hubs and the capital city of Beijing, with services to Shanghai also quite extensive, although a number of carriers are adding service to secondary, albeit still large destinations in China, such as Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chongqin, Urumqi, Sancha, Dalian and Harbin.
Asia Pacific airport investment outlook 2011: new CAPA report
Although the downturn in both passenger traffic and cargo volume from late 2007 led to a slowing of airport investment globally there have been signs latterly of renewed interest in new infrastructure investment. The Asia Pacific region is leading the world out of recession in respect of air transport related activity. Growth – both passenger and cargo – is expected to be at least two percentage points higher than the global average in 2010 and 2011, hastening demand for the infrastructure required to handle it.
UK’s Newcastle and Cardiff airports seek long haul flights
Once it was short haul services that were in demand from UK’s regional airports, now it seems that the desire to avoid travelling via a hub has spread to the mid to long haul arena, as difficult as it may be to justify some of the proposed services. The latest airports to investigate the level of demand for long haul flights are Newcastle and Cardiff.
