The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), tasked with "securing the nation from the many threats we face" is deploying American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)-funded advanced imaging technology to airports across the US. ARRA, signed into law by President Obama on 17-Feb-2009, committed more than USD3 billion for homeland security projects through the DHS and the General Services Administration (GSA). Of the USD1 billion allocated to TSA for aviation security projects, USD734 million is dedicated to screening checked baggage and USD266 million is allocated for checkpoint explosives detection technologies.
