Air Berlin: Improved revenue in September

In September 2009, Air Berlin, Germany's second-largest airline company, was able to increase its revenue per available seat kilometer to 6.22 Eurocents, i.e. an increase of 4.4 percent (09/2008: 5.96 Eurocents).

With 2,708,172 passengers, the number of passengers transported in September 2009 decreased by 5.1 percent as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (09/2008: 2.854.278 passengers). This decline is due to Air Berlin's targeted capacity reduction of 4.8 percent. Fleet capacity utilization decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 82.3 percent (09/2008: 82.5 percent).

From January to September 2009, Air Berlin welcomed a total of 20,977,804 passengers on board, i.e. 5.1 percent less than in the corresponding period of the previous year (2008: 22,107,115 passengers).This decline is offset by an accumulated capacity reduction of 3.5 percent. For the first nine months of the year, fleet capacity utilization decreased from 79.2 to 77.9 percent (-1.3 percentage points).
