LFV Interim Report: Ash cloud and weak traffic development

Direct News Source

The result for LFV for the first quarter of 2010 showed a loss of SEKM 44 (- MSEK38).

During this period the number of passengers increased by 4 percent whilst the number of movements decreased by 2 percent.

-The volcanic ash eruptions on Iceland have had a negative effect on the number of movements during April which means that air travel development throughout 2010 is uncertain, says Thomas Allard, General Director LFV.

- When volcanic ash drifted over Sweden, concern for aviation safety was paramount. Our challenge is to retain a high level of safety without incurring high costs. We are therefore preparing a number of measures to counter this negative development.

A major step towards increasing efficiency and improving the environment was taken 6 May when direct flight routes were introduced throughout the entire Swedish airspace at altitudes above 9,000 metres. These actions will affect approximately 500 flights daily and according to LFV's calculations decrease the carbon dioxide emissions in Swedish airspace by 30 tonnes every day.
